Whether rail, road, maritime or air transport - the traffic infrastructure in the region is well developed. Two of Europe's most important railroads intersect in the area of the Wirtschaftsregion Mittelbaden (Amsterdam – Basel – Milan – Genoa and Paris – Vienna– Budapest). The 6-lane motorway A5 between Frankfurt - Karlsruhe - Basel serves as the main route for individual transport and provides a connection between the south and north of Germany. In addition, several main roads such as B 3, B 36, B 462 and B 500 enhance the connection between north and south and also serve as important connections between Southern Germany and France.
The Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden airport (FKB) in the heart of the region offers flights from and to European metropoles such as Berlin, Rome, Bacelona and London and was used by about 1.1 million passengers in 2015 - making it an important centre of tourism. Additionally, many companies within the WRM region use the ports and moorings on Europe's most important water way, the Rhine river, e. g. at the barrage near Iffezheim. The port of Karlsruhe is one of the biggest river ports in Germany and only 25 km away.
